LibriVox Second Anniversary

I deliberately chose an early recording for this week, as the second anniversary of LibriVox will be celebrated (in some way, I am sure) on the 10th of August. It also almost exactly matches my first anniversary of downloading a Librivox recording. Strange to think that when I started this blog, I was anticipating a limited range of recordings to choose from. And I can remember lurking on the forum, watching people decide on the best way to do things. And wanting to join in, but dreading being encouraged to read! I was never going to do that...

Strange to hear the disclaimer with a 'blogsome' domain name. And some voices that seem unchanged - Kara still sounds like fresh toast, Gordon could still ask the Red Sea to part, and it would. And the PodChef! Does that take me back! He featured in so many of my earliest downloads - his chapter of The Secret Agent was a real favourite. Where is he now, I wonder? I never even thanked him...

Wow, I didn't realize you'd been listening for so long!

Here I am! Thanks for remembering me. I miss reading for Librivox but life got way too hectic and perhaps being ridiculed on the BBC for sounding like I was reading in my loo (which I was) did me in a bit :} Actually as my own podcast took shape and grew I couldn't really justify more time recording and editing.

Hard to believe it's been all this time. . .eh? Anyway, you can check out my podcast and what I've been up to at http://kitchengardens.net

Thanks again, and all the best.

@kristin Yes - I am a lurker by nature! I would love to see a copy of the catalogue a year ago today. Hey, I must have a count and see how many I have 'done' in a year.

@podchef - Wow! How did you know I was talking about you? Glad things are so great with you, and thanks so much for reading so many great chapters to me! Looking at the catalogue, I seem to have listened to all of your recordings, apart from Treasure Island. I think Secret Agent was a highlight - you did a great Verloc - but I was amazed at how much I liked Notes from the Underground. And I record in a cupboard, so a bathroom would seem very comfortable.

Chris, I have a technorati thingy which monitors all things "Podchef". . .It comes in handy at times.

I really liked Verloc in a way. Treasure Island was also a fave--I attempted to pull off many different voices. Not sure if I ever succeeded though. Psmith in the City was the real corker though. Very great stuff, but difficult to read and keep clear.

It's been so great to watch Librivox grow from very humble beginnings.
All the best. Neal
